Chong Hua Tong Strategic Approaches
The 21st century is the revival of Confucianism. With emphasis placed on individual well-being, family cohesion and social harmony, Confucian values give insight into solutions to overcome the challenges faced in our modern society.
Morality is intrinsic core values of the teachings of Confucius and Mencius. It is the root of human virtue. It is also the manifestation of conscience that we practise in our everyday lives, and it evinces the true essence of life. However, with today’s world challenged by the deterioration of morality, it is of utmost importance for us to stay on the path of ethics. The great sages of the past upheld these tenets in their sacred missions, guiding brethren towards civilisations and improving our moral character:
“To ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth, to secure life and fortune for the people, to continue lost teachings of past sages, and to establish peace for all future generations” (Zhang Zai 张载).
Chong Hua Tong Tou Teck Hwee promotes the teachings of Confucianism as it aligns with the organisation’s values in uplifting individual character, and with the organisation’s mission in building a harmonious society.
“Man at birth is fundamentally good in nature” (San Zi Jing 三字经).
Moral character is what we refer to as the conscience. It is the source that gives meaning to humanity and fulfils the value of life; it is also the breakthrough in which the finiteness of life could become infinite. The greatest deed of humankind is bringing about the continuation of infinite life with our sincere humble efforts. In this ever-changing world, we must uphold the spirit of the ancient sages, strengthen our individual cultivation on moral character to work towards promoting peace and harmony in society among all people and nations.
